Somewhere Greener is an original watercolor painting in the “Heads Carolina” collection of mini paintings painted plein air on the grounds of a stunning lake house on Lake Murray in South Carolina in May 2023.
Maybe it was my first taste of warmth and humidity after a long winter, or maybe I had been reading too many issues of Garden & Gun and seen too many Nicholas Sparks movies, or maybe it’s just that I’m in love with a bona fide Southern Gentleman (I haven’t opened my own door since we’ve started dating), but I have had the worst hankering for capturing the stunning beauty of the South in a lighter palette than I’m used to and with looser brushstrokes than I usually use. The combination yielded a collection of watercolor paintings that are fresh, light and breezy.
The “Heads Carolina” series fully captures my deliciously carefree spirit that I have as our cool spring evenings give way to what are sure to be hot summer nights.
I hope my love for the outdoors, the South, and painting comes through to you in this painting. My hope is that my “Heads Carolina” original paintings lift your spirit every time you look at your collection.
