Description

Frenzied Suspension, print, 8″ x 8″, of Lindsey Kiser’s original scratchboard, which was exhibited at the Headley Whitney Museum of Art in Lexington, Kentucky in 2025.

Is there anything more delightful than a flower garden visited by a growing population of ruby-throated hummingbirds? What brings your heart gladness? What sparks joy?

For the artist, hummingbirds are enchanting in a way other songbirds just aren’t. Hummingbirds always appear frenzied and frantic, but every now and then, one will be suspended in a static state of hum near their intended target, whether a blossom or a feeder. At that breathless moment, the feathers can almost be counted. In an instant, it is a whir of color streaking through the yard to the next object of attention.
