Glittering Ambassador by Lindsey Kiser

Glittering Ambassador is an original artwork by Lindsey Kiser completed in scratchboard with colorful ink and iridescent watercolor. The artwork shows rough leaf dogwood visited by Greater Fritillary, a butterfly indigenous to Kentucky.

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

I licensed the photograph from Jennifer Duncan, a Kentucky photographer. I have witnessed this butterfly in my own garden and on hikes on our family farm in Northern Kentucky. After selecting my reference photo, I began scratching with a sharpened sewing needle to reveal the white clay under the black layer of the scratchboard panel. Next, I applied colorful inks to the white scratches of just the butterfly. Then, I applied a layer of iridescent golds and coppers to the butterfly. I scratched the colored areas more and repeated the process until I was happy with the final result. Finally, a clear coat of varnish protects the artwork. This 6″ x 6″ scratchboard is a glittering jewel!

Please note: This piece will not be shipped until the first week of September. This piece along with three other pieces will be evaluated by a panel of art critics to determine my inclusion into a selective art program. Furthermore, by then, it may have been accepted into a selective art group art show at an art museum that I have entered. I’ll keep you posted and deliver the work to you upon conclusion of the show or work with you about preparing you an alternative artwork if you’d rather not wait. Thank you for your kind consideration. If you want to email or call me about the process, please do.
