Description

The Ties that Bind is an original artwork by Lindsey Kiser. To produce this scene, Lindsey worked from taxidermy and from photographs taken while fishing on the Kentucky River. Wood ducks are a special treat to see on early morning boat rides up to Lock One on the Kentucky River from its mouth in Carrollton, Kentucky. The exposed river roots are part of the native habitat of the wood ducks. All families have their origin stories, and these ducklings are no different. Look closely in the roots to see the ducklings perched above the surface of the water, safe from the mouths of snapping turtles and bass.

Look for the hidden KENTUCKY in this artwork.

ON THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

Lindsey applied ink to a white clay panel first and then scratched the colorful ink off with sandpaper, special erasers, tattoo needles, and sharpened sewing needles to reveal the white clay beneath. She layered ink over into those white scratches until the piece was complete.
