Description

Frenzied Suspension is an original scratchboard with colorful layers of ink and iridescent watercolor by Lindsey Kiser. Is there anything more delightful than a flower garden visited by a growing population of ruby-throated hummingbirds? What brings your heart gladness? What sparks joy? For the artist, hummingbirds are enchanting in a way other songbirds just aren’t. Hummingbirds always appear frenzied and frantic, but every now and then, one will be suspended in a static state of hum near their intended target, whether a blossom or a feeder. At that breathless moment, the feathers can almost be counted. In an instant, it is a whir of color streaking through the yard to the next object of attention. Collect Frenzied Suspension as a reminder to slow down and take a breath to observe the beauty in the moment that is right now.

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

Lindsey used multiple reference photos to create the balance you see in this composition. The scratchboard was scratched with a sharpened sewing needle held in a pen vice to reveal the white clay under the black layer. Next, she applied colorful inks and iridescent watercolor to the white scratches. Then she scratched the colorful layers again and repeated the process until she was happy with the result. Finally, a clear coat of varnish protects the artwork.

Please note: This piece will not be shipped until the first week of September. This piece along with three other pieces will be evaluated by a panel of art critics to determine my inclusion into a selective art program. Thank you for your kind consideration.
