February Birth Flower: The Violet
Did you know that you have a birth month flower? The tradition of assigning a flower (or two) for each month of the year dates back to Roman times. Over time, the meaning and symbolism has changed.
February’s birth flower is the violet and represents modesty, faithfulness and spiritual wisdom. Violets have a rich cultural history.
“Within my reach!” by Emily Dickinson
Within my reach!
I could have touched!
I might have chanced that way!
Soft sauntered thro’ the village—
Sauntered as soft away!
So unsuspected Violets
Within the meadows go—
Too late for striving fingers
That passed, an hour ago!
– F 69 (1859)
