Description

Long-spurred Violets I is a 4 3/8″ x 7″ original watercolor painting that comes displayed in a 5″ x 7″ acrylic, magnetic frame. This painting was completed first using a 0.05 pen and then painted on location at Cumberland Falls while I camped in the acidic mesic forest, home of the long-spurred violets.

I found these special violets on a hike to Yahoo Falls, Kentucky’s highest waterfall, and the location where Daniel Boone is said to have killed Big Foot. Because the term “Big Foot” did not yet exist at the time of Daniel Boone, but the Boone contemporaries had read Gulliver’s Travels the falls was named Yahoo Falls for the giants called Yahoos in the classic tale. The hike to the falls is spectacular and the arch just beyond the falls is not to be missed. If you go in April, you will have a chance at spotting these beautiful long-spurred violets.

This simple watercolor painting is a tribute to all that is wild and wonderful and my way of celebrating the outdoors. Bring a little of the essence of the Great Outdoors inside with your art collection of nature art painted on location.

FRAME INCLUDED. Discounted for Mother’s Day 2023 – ends May 31.
